Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) catalyzes the hydrolysis of phopholipids at C2 of the glycerol moiety. This family consists of several phospholipase A2 like proteins mostly from insects.
This family contains the group 1 major allergens from bees and bumblebees [1]. They are not related to PLA1 allergens (AllFam:AF037) from vespids.
Family-defining Pfam domains (at least one of these domains is present in each family member):
Pfam domain | Pfam clan | ||
PF05826 | Phospholipase A2 | CL0629 | Phospholipase A2 superfamily |
