This family consists of several insect specific proteins. Members of this family are commonly found in cockroaches, fruit flies and mosquitos. It has been suggested that the repeat sequences have evolved by duplication of an ancestral amino acid domain, which may have arisen from the mitochondrial energy transfer proteins [1].
Bla g 1 and Per a 1 are major, cross-reactive allergens from German and American cockroach, respectively [1].
Family-defining Pfam domains (at least one of these domains is present in each family member):
Pfam domain | Pfam clan | ||
PF06757 | Insect allergen related repeat, nitrile-specifier detoxification | - |
