Christian Radauer: curriculum vitae

Christian Radauer was born in Salzburg, Austria. He studied Biochemistry at the University of Vienna. After graduation in 1996, he joined the group of Heimo Breiteneder at the former Department of General and Experimental Pathology of the University of Vienna (which is now the Department of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research of the Medical University of Vienna) to start a doctoral programme in biochemistry. The title of his thesis was Molecular and Immunological Characterization of Cross-reactive Allergens from Birch Pollen and Celery. Christian graduated with a PhD degree in 2000.

Christian Radauer continued his career in Heimo Breiteneder's lab as a post-doctoral scientist. During a short research stay in Peter Lackner's group at the Department of Molecular Biology, University of Salzburg, he gained additional experience in bioinformatics. In 2009, he received the teaching qualification (Habilitation) in molecular allergology, which allowed him to establish his own independent research group in 2010.

Christian Radauer's research interest have focused on the field on molecular allergology. The main topics of his reasearch are elucidating molecular properties of allergies, factors that make certeain proteins allergenic, and the molecular basis of cross-reactivity. In recent years, his group aimed at getting insigths into the clinical relevance of the patient specific repertoires of allergen specific immunoglobulins. In his work, he has also applied methods of bioinformatics to allergy research. His studies on the evolutionaly classification of allergens led to the development of the AllFam database, a web resource that provides an easy-to-use overview on the protein family classification of allergens. Since April 2022, Christian Radauer has been scientific co-chair of the WHO/IUIS Allergen Nomenclature Sub-Committee. This function of this committee is to maintain and develop an official, unambiguous nomenclature for allergenic proteins and to make the official allergen names accessible to the scientific community in the Allergen Nomenclature Database.
